Localisation versus word-for-word translation

A website translated word for word from Spanish into German will not perform the same as one written for German speakers from the start. Sentence construction, idiomatic phrasing, call-to-action copy, error message text, and privacy notice language all need to read naturally in the target language, not as a translation of the source.

That is the practical difference between translation and localisation. We preserve the meaning while adapting the expression to sound natural for the target market. A Spanish hotel brochure translated into English should not read like a Spanish brochure. It should read like an English hotel page, because that is what converts English-speaking visitors.

SEO in the target language

We adapt your existing SEO titles and meta descriptions for target-language search intent and flag where search behaviour differs between source and target markets. If your Spanish audience searches using different terminology than your German audience for the same service, your translated pages need to reflect that. We do not simply translate keywords -- we research the terms your target audience actually uses.

Image alt text, heading structure, internal anchor text, and URL slugs are all included in the localisation scope. A website that is technically translated but has no alt text or uses source-language URL slugs will not rank in the target market.

CMS integration and file formats

We work with WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, and custom-built sites. For most CMS platforms we deliver content ready to copy in or use XLIFF, PO, or JSON exports that can be imported directly. For Shopify stores, we translate product titles, descriptions, collection copy, and checkout pages.

If your site uses a headless CMS or custom content architecture, send us a sample export and we will confirm compatibility before quoting. We have worked with Contentful, Prismic, Sanity, and Strapi, among others.

Maintaining consistency across a large site

For websites with more than 20 pages we build a site-specific glossary before starting work. This ensures product names, brand terms, navigation labels, and recurring phrases are translated consistently across every page. The glossary is delivered with the project and can be used for future content updates.

For ongoing content publishing, we offer retainer arrangements where new pages and blog posts are translated within an agreed turnaround time using the existing glossary as the foundation.
